Change is never easy, but sometimes it opens the door to something even better. After trying every approach we could to keep the current setup going, the LACC Swap Meet is officially preparing for a transition. Over the past months, about 90% of our inside-market vendors have decided not to continue with us, even with space fees at just $75. Some are facing real financial hardship, some simply chose a different path, and others have moved out to the streets to avoid any fees at all.
Moreover, we’re deeply concerned for the approximately 17,000 students who have lost their funding due to actions from Hugo Soto-Martinez, the city attorney, the courts, and the city itself. This situation has highlighted the importance of our market, and we are willing to relocate the street vendors' setup, even across the street, to make our market more visible and supportive for our community.
When 80% of a market becomes available to rent, it sends a clear message: it’s time to reimagine what this place can be. Rather than seeing this as an ending, we’re choosing to see it as a fresh start—a chance to rebuild a stronger, more vibrant, and more community-centered marketplace that honors our roots while looking forward. That next chapter has a name: LACC Swap & Flea.

What’s Changing (and What’s Not)
At its heart, our space will still feel like the LACC Swap Meet you know—a place where you can wander the aisles, talk with local vendors, grab a bite, and stumble on that unexpected treasure. But we’re also welcoming a new wave of vendors and experiences to fill the open spaces and breathe new life into the grounds.

Beginning in AUGUST, you’ll start to see LACC Swap Meet become LACC Swap & Flea, a hybrid that blends that old-school swap meet energy with a more curated flea-market-style vibe. The goal: keep the charm, increase the quality, and make this a place people want to spend their entire day.

Calling New Vendors: Help Shape the Next Era
With so much of the market open, we’re actively looking for new vendors who are excited to grow with us and help shape this next era. We’re especially interested in vendors who can complement the classic swap meet feel while bringing something fresh:
Vintage clothing, records, and collectibles
Handmade goods, art, crafts, and upcycled items
Electronics, tools, and everyday essentials
Local food favorites, snacks, and beverages
Unique specialty items you don’t see at every market
This transition is an opportunity for new and returning vendors to get in early, establish a regular spot, and grow alongside a revitalized community market. We’re committed to maintaining reasonable fees while focusing on building a consistent, reliable vendor base that shoppers can count on week after week.

Creating a Better Experience for Shoppers
We’re not just filling spaces—we’re redesigning the experience. As part of the transition to LACC Swap & Flea, we’re planning several improvements that put community first:
Live music: We’ll be introducing live performances to bring more energy and joy to your shopping day. Think local bands, DJs, and community performers adding a soundtrack to your weekend.
Community seating areas: New seating zones will give you a comfortable place to sit, eat, relax, and connect with friends and family between browsing the aisles.
A more curated, welcoming layout: With new vendors coming in, we’re working to make the market easier to navigate and more enjoyable from the moment you arrive.
We want LACC Swap & Flea to feel like more than just a place to shop. We want it to feel like a neighborhood hangout where people meet up, support small businesses, and enjoy the day together.

Getting Serious About Protecting the Market
One of the hard realities we’ve been dealing with is the rise of street vending right outside our gates. While we respect people’s hustle and understand that times are tough, unregulated vending directly outside the market has been hurting our paying vendors and undermining the health of the swap meet as a whole.
As we transition to LACC Swap & Flea, we’re going to be much more strict about outside street vendors who set up in ways that damage our community and violate campus and city policies. Our priority is to protect the vendors who are investing their time, energy, and money to be part of this market. Building a strong, lasting community means everyone plays by the same rules.

Looking Ahead: A Sneak Peek at What’s Next
This transition isn’t an overnight flip of a switch, but changes will start rolling out over the next month or so. You’ll see new signage, new booths, new sounds, and new faces. You’ll also see us testing ideas—like different music acts, themed days, and vendor spotlights—to find out what our community loves most.
We know this news may stir up a mix of emotions. Some of you have been with us since the very beginning; others have only just discovered us. To all of you: thank you for sticking with the LACC Swap Meet through its ups and downs. We’re committed to making LACC Swap & Flea a place you can be proud of—a place that supports local families, celebrates creativity, and keeps that classic LA swap meet spirit alive.
Whether you’re a shopper, a longtime vendor, or someone dreaming of setting up your first booth, we invite you to be part of this new chapter. Stay tuned for updates on vendor applications, entertainment schedules, and opening dates for the refreshed LACC Swap & Flea. The market is changing—but the heart of our community is very much here to stay.

Thank you for your understanding and your continued support.
